Feedback from today's rehearsal

PAUL WOOD WRITES:
Today went very well and all of the technical aspects of the night are falling into place. We managed to pull together one whole hour of the show with very few mistakes considering this was an early practice.

The main points I would like to raise from today are:

Director - Maddie did a fantastic job and had far too much to do, we have decided we will be having a separate vision mixer on the night so that Maddie can concentrate on directing.

OBs - The first major point about the OBs is that make sure it looks good. The camera should be positioned so that we can clearly see the presenter talking to it and then when interviewing, set it up as you would with a normal camera.

The other point about OBs is that you must think about yourselves as a guest on the show. This means that you can't hand back to the studio when you want, the studio will control all of this and Kayleigh will stop you talking and say goodbye when she has been advised to by the director. If your interviewee stops talking, you should ask them more until Kayleigh intervenes.

All OB people should set up an MSN Messenger account as well as Skype so that they can talk to the Editor and Gallery all night so that we know when will be a good time to call you on Skype. Would Kayleigh be able to set up an MSN account for us in the Gallery called Winchester News or something, we can then add everyone to the contact list ready for tomorrow.

Packages - Packages are very good and we will sit down tomorrow morning and go through them all to check they are of a consistent quality.

Presenter - Tom was fantastic today, he seemed relaxed and did not get distracted if something didn't go to plan. On the night we are sure to have issues both technically and editorially and so it is important that the anchor is ready to fill the void.

VT - There were some slight issues on the VT computer. One is that when playing the party round up titles, we need to go to the reporter as soon as the opening music stops, the reporter will then speak over the music that starts next.

We will also need to make sure everything is rendered and ready to go so all packages must be on there by early afternoon.

Chris Horrie adds:

NEWS

> We now have been offered a "two way" reaction from a journalism student in Dublin, or the Irish dimension and Irish reaction to the emerging result. Kayleigh will follow up.

> Buckingham have come on stream in a big way - offering a live OB with cameras from the top of the show onwards - this will be Cameron's constituency Witney (Whitney?) - they are hoping to be in the scrum trying to get Cameron comment at the top of the show. Kayleigh will be rehearsing their Skype tomorrow from 10am onwards. This is a terrific lift for the programme.

> Kingston have gone a bit quiet - but still offering Vince Cable in Twickenham and other video calls. Kayleigh will chase. Kayleigh is very much in the hottest of several hot seats tomorrow - give her lots of help and support.

> If you are doing an OB for us, then Kingston want articles writing as well. They are producing a newspaper with a 4am deadline, printed on Friday morning. We have done a deal to take delivery of 200 copies of the paper at the university. So that will be on sale/distributed on Friday morning with your articles in it. A fantastic added bonus.

> 100 views in a single day for Catherine's trailer for election night. Please please view this again on You Tube - to give this video a boost overnight, build a feeling of a large audience growing for the show. Generally promote viewing of the show as much as you can through facebook or anything like that.
