HCJ-2 JAZZ

I posted up an extra, optional lecture on Jazz. You won't be examined on the context, but some Jazz basics are important if you want to understand modern culture.

JAZZ - part one - Shostakovich, African polyrhythms, Voodoo, New Orleans, Ragtime, Trad Jazz

JAZZ - part two - Islamic tonality, Sufi'ism, French influences, Jewish tonality.

JAZZ - part three - The Blues, Migration, Billie Holiday, Swing, BeBop, Charlie Parker, The 50s.

JAZZ - part four - Hard Bop, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dropping the Beat, Free Jazz
.

I already posted up some Nina Simone you tube vids. I planto move all this to a Jazz section of the New Winchester review, so if anyone really likes Jazz or wants to find out more or write about it, or interview jazz people for the NWR that would be an excellent idea.

Please post comments on the You Tube channel as well, especially if pointing out errors or (more likely) gross over simplifications. Buit a bit of jazz is better than none at all. BBC Radio Three is otherwise the best website and station for jazz.

Miles Davis is a genius to me... Kind Of Blue is a work of art.
