HCJ Year Two + Tom Wolf + Feature Writing
I remembered an old blog post dealing with an essay by Tom Wolfe about Nietzsche - so this pulls things together a bit (The set book From Bauhaus; Zarathustra, Tom Wolf and Gonzo Journalism. Maybe follow up and add something to your own blogs. Here's the essay. I am thinking of reviving my old blog, so that the messageboard can just be for administrative info. Tom Wolfe (here talking about Freud) is a bit like the Paul McCartney of Journalism. He's old fashioned now and even derided, but his impact on journalism, especially magazine journalism, is similar in terms of impact to The Beatles on pop music. As an essayist though he is really good. Second only to Gore Vidal from that generation of literary journalists.
