LIBEL CAMPAIGN

I was reading James Kenyon's excellent blog and saw that he had written about an important libel case involving the leading science journalist Simon Singh. It is well worth reading about this case before the discussion in media law of the important new development of Common Law Qualified Privilege (sometimes also called The Reynolds Defence). There's a campaign to reform the libel laws in the UK which are very favourable to the litigant and mean that journalists don't really stand a chance in a libel case against a wealthy person (or a big company) - unless their publishers are ready to put millions on the table and are prepared to lose that money.
